The Long Paddock

The three works below were commissioned to commemorate the great network of stock routes, tracks and trails that became known as The Long Paddock. They are located beside the Cobb Highway at Hay in NSW. Click here to visit ARTback at the Long Paddock website. Please click on the images below to view a larger image and details of the work.

Cobb's Wheels

Cobb's Wheels

Hay is situated on the Cobb Highway and was a manufacturing base for Cobb and Co. The sculpture pays homage to this part of the history of the transport in the region and by metaphor the struggles of the early settlers.

Murrumbidgee Landscapes

Murrumbidgee Landscapes

One side of the sculpture represents the meandering Murrumbidgee River with its billabongs and islands, while the other represents the irrigated landscape man-made for intensive agriculture.

Lang's Crossing

Lang's Crossing

The proximity of the original track that became the Sturt Highway to a convenient crossing point of the river inevitably made the location a suitable place for the founding of the town of Hay. This sculpture represents the successive methods of crossing the river; firstly by ford, then by punt and later by the construction of a bridge.
