Dylan Thomas Series

The poetry of Dylan Thomas ranges from the accessible to the obscure but it is always inspirational. These four works are my interpretation of some of his central images. Click the thumbnail to view a larger image and details of the work.

On to the Fields of Praise

On to the Fields of Praise
From Thomas’s poem "Fern Hill" in which the joy he experienced as a boy while spending long hot summers on a relative’s farm is evoked.

Intricate Image

Intricate Image
"I, in my intricate image, stride on two levels" is the first line of this poem in which the poet describes his attempts to understand his presence in the world.

And Tomorrow Weeps in a Blind Cage

And Tomorrow Weeps in a Blind Cage
From the poem "Poem on his Birthday" in which the poet rejoices in his life but mourns his mortality.

Daughters of Darkness

Daughters of Darkness
The last line of the poem "In the White Giant’s Thigh" in which Thomas recalls the lives of the women who toiled in the local village, reads ... "And the Daughters of Darkness Flame like Fawkes' Fires still."
